Acceptance speech

I want to thank the guardians
of the current state of beauty
for taking such pains to
touch me so lightly
or not at all
for disregarding
my old dishonoured horizon
and pointing me to this hole
where I can shed my
last skin of doubt
wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you

Yet another pitch-perfect expression, with nary a wasted in- or out-breath. Seems to come from a more peaceful place than some of your earlier (melancholic/ angst-ridden?) pieces. (Oh, of course, a greater place of “acceptance.” ) * smile *

Can I assume you won’t mind if I feature this piece over on my blog — with proper credit and link, of course?

Hi Rachel, of course I don’t mind, and thanks for your interest. Though I have to say, I didn’t feel peaceful so much as sarcastic, but maybe that doesn’t come across properly. I’m not very good at verse. Whatever, your interpretation is perfectly valid.

Tried to find an email address on your site?

P.S. Liked the Sigur Ros video.

How interesting. I didn’t get a hint of sarcasm at all — but it wouldn’t be the first time I simultaneously translated something into pure, unfettered optimism, light and joy. Then again, I thoroughly relish scraping the bottom of the emotional barrel and coming up empty…

Haven’t actually put my email on my site.

    sigur ros: me too

You and your verse are featured in one of two posts I did today, 5/15.
